My Amazing Mom

I spent the last week in Stansbury and at the end of the week, we had a sprint triathlon. It wasn't anything official, it's really just a bunch of neighbors that get together and do it, a lot of them are practicing for other triathlons that they will be doing. They call it the Tater Tot, because it started as a training race for people who are doing the Spudman Triathlon in Burley, Idaho. Anyway, this was the first year Matt and I did it and my mom did it too. I actually got a flat tire a couple miles into the bike ride so I got a ride back to the house and then went on the run with Matt. But my mom...is freaking amazing! She's 52 years old, and of all these guys and younger girls that did this triathlon, she's the third person out of the water. She was the first girl to finish and she just makes it look a little too easy. I've always told Matt if I could be even a quarter of what my mom is, I'll be happy, but as you can see from the pictures, I don't mean physically. It's been a while since I've taken a math class, but I think a quarter of next to nothing, is...nothing. Check out her guns, I mean seriously, that does not look like a woman who has 9 grandkids. I love you Mom!!!

The main reason we were in Stansbury last week was because I was watching my nephew while my sister went to girls camp. He's about 6 months older than Ava, and much more mobile. Of course, any mobility is more than Ava :) But look at his beautiful hair, it's just not fair that a little boy can have that much beautiful curly hair while I'm desperately trying to fit three strands in a hairband and call it a ponytail. So, kinda funny story, I had just put Ava down for a nap so I thought I'd hurry and take a shower. Well, my sister had a bunch of toy in her bedroom so I figured Gage would probably just play while I took a shower, so I put him by the toys and jumped in the shower. Well, I checked on him once or twice and he was over by the toys, so I'm just washing my hair and such and all of a sudden the shower curtain opens a little and his little head peeks in and he says peek-a-boo. It was so funny! He proceeded to play peek-a-boo with me for the rest of my shower. It cracked me up!

Ava had her 9 month doctor's appointment while we were out there and she was in the 75th percentile all the way around. She was 20 pounds 10 ounces and 28 1/2 inches tall. She only had to get one shot, but I felt bad for the poor nurse. I mean, that can't be the favorite part of their job, and if it is, they probably should find a different job. But after Ava got poked, she started crying obviously and the nurse got the bandaid on and then told me I could pick her up, so I'm trying to comfort her and she just keeps turning to the nurse and giving her the dirtiest looks, I'm telling you, if looks could kill...the poor nurse just kept saying sorry, but it was really kinda funny. I don't think I've ever seen her shoot such crustys at someone before especially while she was crying.

We also had a baby shower for Libby (Rose) Bailey, at my mom's house that weekend and we got a picture of most everyone but it's on my mom's camera, so I'll have to post it later. It was so fun to see everyone though. I always laugh so hard when I get together with those girls!! Thanks everyone for coming!!

One more thing, Matt is taking his big NCLEX exam on Tuesday. It's the test that basically makes him an official nurse [or as my dad insists on calling him, a murse (male + nurse)] Anyway, he's been studying for this thing non-stop since he graduated not to mention the time he put in before school was over. We will both be greatly relieved when this is over and done with! So, remember him in your prayers please. He takes the test on Tuesday but probably won't find out until Thursday if he passed. So, if you see fireworks coming from the Heber direction Thursday night, you'll know why....

Hey Jen,
The shower was very fun, thanks for the invite. It's always fun to catch up with everyone. And congrats on your triathalon. Also, I think we left Mercedes' cup and plate on the floor at your mom's house. Well, usually it's not like me to worry about little things like that (as you probably know) but I just wanted to say sorry about that;)
